Oval Pompadour ring in yellow gold and solid 18 carat white gold (750 thousandths) owl hallmark affixed by the Paris Guarantee Office, French work. Important ring head bordered below by a gallery of pierced gold lace, supported laterally by two oval palmettes each set with a diamond. Centered with a fine oval almost black sapphire measuring 11 mm x 9 mm bezel set in yellow gold in an entourage of twenty 8x8 cut diamonds set in white gold.
The Pompadour ring is a symbol of commitment, which has enchanted engaged couples for two centuries. The custom is to surround a colored gemstone with diamonds.

Very good state. The sapphire is in excellent condition. A discreet trace of sizing inside the ring (not visible on the outside) and a remnant of engraving (date or number not readable). Note that two gold balls had been added and were kept in the ring to hold the ring in place.
