Important old medal pendant in solid 18 carat yellow gold 750 thousandths, eagle's head hallmark and master goldsmith's diamond hallmark. French work from the 1920s, signed “AG” for the medal jeweler André GIARD and “MONIER” for the sculptor Emile MONIER (1883-1970). Triangular in shape, in textured gold, it is decorated with fine details with a magnificent relief decoration representing a thatched roof house inscribed in a large heart. Bordered by the inscription: “A THATCHED AND A HEART”. Surrounding it, a sky in plique-à-jour enamel in two colors of blue and the inside of the window in red plique-à-jour enamel. No engraving on the reverse.

Excellent condition. Very light micro-scratches on the gold parts and a very small trace of deformation at the lower tip of the triangle visible on the back. The enamel is complete and in very good condition. He is magnificent. See detail photos.
Plique à jour is an enamel application technique similar to cloisonné but without a metal background, so that light can filter through the transparent or translucent enamel. The effect rendered is that of stained glass. It is almost no longer used, because it is technically complex with a long implementation time (more than 4 months per object), a high failure rate and also because of the breakdown in transmission of the technique between generations of goldsmiths.
