The head of Moor would draw its origins from the history of Corsica, when the warriors of the island of beauty had to defend themselves against the attacks of the Saracens in the year 704.
The legend tells the story of Diana, a young girl kidnapped by a cruel Sarrazin chief and sold as a slave to the king. Her fiancé swore to free her and left for the city of Aleria. A terrible hand-to-hand battle between the inhabitants of Aleria and the Moors broke out. To discourage the enemy and celebrate their victory, the inhabitants put the head of the Moor chief on a stake in order to exhibit it from village to village. Many legends followed. However, the most serious hypothesis evokes a banner not only of revolt and counter-revolution but that of independence raised by Paoli-Corsican politician-. This head would therefore be that of Saint Maurice d'Agaune-Mauritius ("Moor"); a black Egyptian who adopted the Christian religion and martyred for this reason in 303. Christians were then executed blindfolded, hence the black head with, originally, a blindfold.
Sublime brooch mounted on textured 18-carat yellow gold and worked in arabesques. Made of ebony, the Moor's head captivates. The cap is fashioned in yellow gold and set with round rubies. The collar of the jacket is adorned with 14 round emeralds and 2 emerald-cut emeralds, of a subjugating color.
