A few words about spinel
Fine stone also called "semi-precious", the spinel stone designates a family of minerals with a wide variety of colors ranging from red, through blue, pink, purple, black, green or even orange. . Bright and full of vivacity, the spinel stone comes from the Latin "spina" which means "thorn" because of the shape of the naturally pointed crystals.
Spinel (and yes, it's a male name) was discovered in Afghanistan in the year 100 BC. Often confused with ruby or sapphire - generally sporting a red or blue color - it is thanks to the mineralogist Jean-Baptiste Louis Rome de Lisle (1783) that spinel is identified as a fine stone in its own right. Today, spinels are mined on all continents and more particularly in Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Burma and Brazil.
