How to clean your earrings in 5 steps?

How to clean your earrings in 5 steps?

Whether you have used earrings in gold or silver, they lose their luster over time. There are a few tricks to help your earring quickly regain its shine. Without damaging the metal of your jewel or the stones that adorn the earring, you can restore splendor to the precious. A little water, neutral soap, a soft toothbrush, a lint-free cloth and a few minutes of patience are the essential elements to recover the sumptuousness of your favorite pair of earrings.

First step: let your earring soak in water

Get a bowl large enough to put a bottom of water in which to soak your jewelry. It is not a question of drowning your earrings, but of bathing them while keeping an eye on them. You can use water mixed with neutral pH soap. A few people use liquid dish soap. These products can be corrosive, so prefer a neutral liquid soap to respect the metal and the stones of your jewellery. Ask about the precious gems that adorn your earring. Some, like amber, don't like soap, or the pearl does not support cosmetics and the opal can lose its fire in water. A bath of clear water will suffice to restore its beauty.

Second step: gently brush your earring

During soaking in the soapy water, the dirt residue inserted into your earring softened or dissolved. However, there are always a few places where bacteria like to live and which must be helped to eliminate. To clean your earring more effectively, use a soft toothbrush. Vigorously rub the jewel. Thanks to the soft bristles of the toothbrush, you will reach complicated and delicate places.

Third step: rinse your earring thoroughly

After brushing the jewel with the toothbrush, it is important to rinse well. To eliminate all the residues detached by the toothbrush, a passage under clear water is essential. To avoid losing your earring in the meanders of the pipes, bring a strainer. This way you can rinse your earring without risking losing it. To rinse your earring as for the soaking step, you can use lukewarm water. Warm water loosens impurities better than cold water.

Fourth step: clean your earring with alcohol

To find very clean earrings completely free of dirt and bacteria, this last step is perfect. By using a cotton swab soaked in alcohol, you will be able to disinfect the entire earring and thus ensure that no bacteria can survive this process. Use 90 degree alcohol to clean your earring. However, also pay attention to the precious stones set on your jewel. Some stones react badly to alcohol and can be damaged. It is therefore important as with soapy water to know the precious stones before using any product at the risk of losing the splendor of your jewel.

Step Five: Dry Your Earring

Before putting your earrings back in your ears, remember to dry them well. To prevent the earring from remaining damp and being again at the mercy of bacteria, it is important to dry them well. You can either let your jewelry air dry or use a cloth. If you prefer this second solution, a lint-free cotton cloth is ideal. By drying your earring with the cloth, you also allow your jewelry to regain its shine. It's a bit like polishing.
