Everything you need to know about the Tank ring

Everything you need to know about the Tank ring

Few people in France know the tank ring nowadays, however, it was an emblematic piece of jewelry from the 40s, very fashionable among women. This ring original and imposing attracts the attention of lovers of vintage jewelry. But what is its story?

The history of the tank ring

Tank rings were popular between 1935 and 1950, during and after World War II. It was this conflict that gave birth to this ring, which has become emblematic of the 40s.

Indeed, gold and precious stones were rare, even absent from the jewelry market. It was therefore more practical to melt the gold found to make a ring, thus facilitating its transport. From there was born the voluminous tank ring, recognizable by its style Art Deco. With its elaborate geometric lines, numerous patterns and precious stones, it is a bijou which does not go unnoticed. Its name refers to the tanks used during the war, explaining its imposing size and very structured appearance.

There are also tank bracelets, quite heavy, whose patterns recall the tracks of battle tanks. These jewels remain very technical and elaborate, requiring real jewelry know-how.

Tanks have obviously inspired the greatest designers and jewelers since the First World War, notably Cartier. In 1919, the jeweler created the Tank watch, reminiscent of battle tanks by its particular shape. This century-old watch has stood the test of time and is today an exceptional object worn by the greatest celebrities.

How to wear a tank ring?

The tank ring is made for people who like imposing rings and feel their presence on their finger. Although it is not the ideal accessory for a wedding ring, the tank ring is a real stylish accessory that can enhance an outfit. Its vintage look is very trendy, and the diversity of its colors and stones has appealed to fashion enthusiasts. We find tank rings in yellow, white or pink gold, decorated with all kinds of fine and precious stones.

To feel comfortable and wear your tank ring, we will more often suggest it on the middle finger, but why also imagine it on the thumb or index finger? Some smaller sizes were also designed to be worn like signet rings, on the little finger. Finally, for most it is preferable not to wear it with other rings of different sizes or styles so as not to overload the hand, we know fans of this style who love to accumulate them!
