Mellerio: A unique heritage of more than 400 years

Over the generations, the family Mellerio has been able to highlight its creative know-how, whether in design or manufacturing, thus allowing the House to always be fashionable and celebrated for the exceptional quality of its creations.Today, the Maison's workshop is still located above its historic boutique at 9 rue de la Paix in Paris.

Since the 16th century, the family Mellerio has preserved all its archives, documents related to its activity, including royal privileges granted by Marie de Medici and her successors, registers and thousands of jewelry creations. These archives bring together many influences and trace the entire history of French jewelry, making them a constant source of inspiration for contemporary creations.

To celebrate its 400th anniversary, the house calls on the talent of the designer Édéenne, to offer a brand new collection named The Lilies, paying homage to this Florentine flower and more particularly to Marie de Medici and the kings of France, while being a symbol of purity and royalty. This collection thus celebrates nature in all its nobility, the grace of women and is a tribute to Marie de Medici. It embodies the quintessence of the art of jewelry. 

Mellerio, the jeweler of queens

In the 20th century, Jean-Baptiste Mellerio passed through the doors of the Palace of Versailles to become a supplier to the Court, and then opened a shop at 1799 rue Vivienne in 1815. His cousin Jean-François opened his in the rue de la Peace in XNUMX. Maison Mellerio quickly made a reputation for the quality and choice of precious stones, a refined craftsmanship and style, as well as a prestigious and international clientele.

Subsequent generations have continued to improve on what the previous ones had accomplished, driven by a passion for their profession and invested with a duty to pass on their knowledge. Today, the fifteenth generation is ready to take on the challenges of this third millennium, thus perpetuating the intact legacy of this dynasty that is celebrating its fourth century of existence.

Contemporary collections from Maison Mellerio

Graphic

Known for its contemporary design, the Graphic collection is however an old collection that is no longer found on their site. Graphic offers jewelry with a modern and minimalist look; where each piece plays on the contrasts between the color of the materials and geometric lines, mixing elegance and architectural simplicity. 

The Annel

The Annel is also another vintage collection composed of wedding rings, a symbol of continuity, engraved of inscriptions in Provençal: "But this ring has no love", like an eternal love.

Monterosa 

Monterosa is a figurative representation of the wild rose, the emblematic flower of the Maison Mellerio. Sensual, feminine and poetic, these contemporary pieces are inspired by two historical tiaras of the Maison, each adorned with a central rose: one commissioned by the Queen of Spain in 1867 and the other by the Queen of Italy in 1868.

SHIRT

The Maglia collection finds its inspiration in the fishing nets hung on the walls of fishermen's houses. The diamonds seem to be perfectly set on the ring and float on this gold mesh as if by magic. A gold thread connects each one to the other, whose relief thus worked recalls the ropes of the nets. Each piece was faced with the challenge of finding the perfect balance between hold and flexibility, while being light and thin.

Garden 

Giardino pays homage to Italy, Mellerio's native country, and more specifically to the Borromean Islands, especially Isola Madre, one of its three islands. Constantly inspired by both contemporary influences and old drawings from the archives, Laure-Isabelle Mellerio designed the motif for this collection based on a 19th-century drawing.

Color Queen 

With the Color Queen collection, color takes center stage. This bold collection combines vibrantly colored gemstones: rubies, emeralds, sapphires and other more exotic gems set in spectacularly designed frames that reflect Mellerio's joie de vivre and creative genius. 

The Mellerio size

In 1716, the Mellerio family obtained the right to work gold and precious stones at a time when their use was highly regulated. They had in their hands exceptional stones, sourced from top brokers, and have sold crown gems from France as well as stones from Golconda, India. They also sold the mythical Polar Star, Sultan of Morocco and Head of Aries diamonds to the Russian prince Nikolay Yusupov in the 1850s. The natural diamond is one of the most spectacular expressions of their contemporary creations. 

They created their own cut, the "Mellerio Cut", in 2005. This cut is recognizable among all with its 57 facets, its oval inscribed in an ellipse and its asymmetrical shape inspired by the central emerald of the peacock feather brooch of Empress Eugénie. This cut is now one of the favorites of the house's customers, especially for the originality it gives to the jewelry and watches that feature it.

The M Cut Watch

Formerly known as The Ninehave M Cut watch illustrates Mellerio's commitment to exceptional watchmaking, with new models equipped with mechanical movement (ETA caliber, with leaf-shaped hour and minute hands), or self-winding in yellow gold, white gold or steel dials with a diameter of 36,95x30mm. Suitable for both women's and men's wardrobes, these models are equipped with calfskin or alligator leather straps, with a pin buckle that reproduces the iconic Mellerio oval. 

This very particular shape, represented by an oval inscribed in an ellipse, is at the origin of the Beau Sancy diamond worn by Marie de Medici during her coronation and has become the Mellerio cut among initiates. CThe oval case is securely attached to the notched crown, allowing water resistance up to 30 meters deep.
