150 years of Piaget with the return of the Polo 79

150 years of Piaget with the return of the Polo 79

In 1979, Piaget introduced to the market a watch that would become a symbol of the 1980s. Today, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the house, the Polo 79 makes a notable and triumphant return.

A fascinating story

In the 1970s, Piaget was already famous for his watches, but changes in the lifestyle of its customers required a new approach. Yves Piaget explained: "We had to respond to the specific demand of our customers accustomed to elegant watches. Today, our customers are more and more sports enthusiasts, which is part of the current evolution of lifestyles. They seek refinement and want to wear a quality watch even during their sporting activities. This is why we have created this chic sports line, both waterproof and shock resistant."

The Piaget Polo was born this way. This iconic model, now called the Piaget Polo 79, continues to embody the spirit of its era. Piaget's Polo was a unique creation, a masterpiece of modern and aesthetic design made entirely of gold, where the case and bracelet were fused into a single piece.

A watch inspired by the world of polo

Polo, or an elite sport that perfectly matched Piaget's prestige in society. This watch was as at home in the trendy clubs of New York as it was on the polo fields of Palm Beach.

The pattern of polished gadroons and satin-finished links extended continuously from the bracelet to the case, and even to the dial, without any visible demarcation. The bracelet, made with remarkable craftsmanship, looked as if it had been carved from a single piece of gold.

Although the Polo was robust and waterproof, it made no compromises in terms of luxury and rarity, being made exclusively with precious metals. Equipped with Piaget's ultra-thin movements, it embodied both revolution and elegance.

The Polo 79 today represents the authentic version of the original model, improved with some subtle details to adapt to current trends. The quartz movement has been replaced by the in-house ultra-thin 1200P1 automatic movement, providing precise and reliable operation.

Since its creation in 1874, Piaget has embodied creative audacity and innovation in the field of watchmaking. Over the years, the house has preserved its artistic values and its commitment to artisanal excellence. On this 150th anniversary, the Polo 79 perpetuates this legacy of virtuosity and elegance, testifying to the indelible mark left by Piaget in the world of luxury watchmaking.
