Chaumet presents the medals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Chaumet presents the medals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

La Chaumet House, a famous Parisian jeweler established at Place Vendôme since 1812, provided its expertise by designing the design of the medals, the emblem par excellence of the Olympic Games.

Chaumet the 2024 Olympics

First jeweler in the history of the Olympic Games to have had the honor of creating these medals

The House approached this task with originality and passion. Designed by the creative studio, the medals embody the common vocation of LVMH and Maison Chaumet: that of making people dream through their know-how. There Chaumet House drew its inspiration from the richness of its heritage, the strength of its style and French and Parisian symbols to design a unique design combining tradition and modernity. She thus reinvents in a creative and innovative way the most coveted object for a high-level athlete.

The first side of the Chaumet medal for the Olympics

In close collaboration with the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP) chaired by Tony Estanguet, Chaumet's creative teams wanted the side of the medal specific to the Paris edition to pay homage to France and the City of Lights, while reflecting the creative codes of the House.

The hexagon, a visual emblem symbolizing France, is a figure dear to Chaumet. It also represents France and is widened by a series of rays, evoking here the influence of the country on the occasion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024, that of the athletes whose performances will shine in the eyes of the world, and finally that of exceptional creative know-how.

This influence is supported by the faceting of the medals, designed and created to reflect the light, thus evoking the name City of Light given to the capital, and to make the athlete who wears it around his neck shine. These different rays cut into the metal animate and give life to this exceptional object.

The materials chosen are highly symbolic. Gold, silver or bronze, these medals are above all from Paris.

Chaumet therefore chose to innovate by setting this hexagonal center like a precious stone, with the “claw” setting technique, traditionally used by the House for its high jewelry pieces. This setting is reminiscent of the “clou de Paris”, used in jewelry and evoking the rivets of the Eiffel Tower

The second side of the Chaumet medal for the Olympics

Identical for each edition, the other side of the medals illustrates the rebirth of the Games in Greece. The goddess of victory Athena Nike is depicted next to the Acropolis emerging from the Panathenaic Stadium, site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. For the 2024 Paris Games, the Eiffel Tower has been added in front of the Acropolis. This side of the medal pays homage to the ancient Greek Games and the French origins of the modern Olympic Games celebrating their return to the Capital a century after the 1924 Olympics.

For Paralympic medals

Maison Chaumet has chosen to represent a low-angle view under the Eiffel Tower, with the inscription “Paris 2024” engraved in universal braille, a symbol of accessibility and a nod to Louis Braille. The ribbon, red or blue, takes up the tapered lines of the Eiffel Tower, made using French know-how.

The medal, made for the first time by a jeweler, expresses the creative role of LVMH as a partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In collaboration with Paris 2024, Chaumet drew on its archives and on Olympism to create a medal incorporating the codes of fine jewelry.
