Opal sapphire gold ring in 18 karat yellow gold (750 thousandths). Large band ring centered with an intense blue sapphire cabochon framed by two noble opals. White opals (harlequin type) have beautiful red, pink, orange, yellow-green light effects, they are also cabochon-cut. Ring from the 1970s and 1980s.
Eagle's head hallmark, silversmith's hallmark AR. French made.

There are several types of opal: noble opals and common opals. The noble opals, like this one, have plays of color due to the light. It is made up of tiny siliceous spheres aligned and of the same diameter. When the light hits the stone, and depending on the angle from which you look at it, light plays dance on the surface of the opal. The common opal, it does not have any luminous games, these spherules are disordered, and of different diameters, the light will only give it a "milky" aspect. In the collective imagination, the opal would have the capacity to make invisible. Hence its designation of “patrum forum” (patron of thieves) at the end of the Middle Ages.
