150 years of Piaget: the finesse of Swiss know-how

150 years of Piaget: the finesse of Swiss know-how

13st June 2024 , the Swiss fine jewelry and watchmaking house Piaget celebrated its 150th anniversary in Paris, with an intimate gala evening bringing together many stars, under the sign of beauty and joy.

Piaget wanted to highlight the work of its artisans: each piece in the spotlight is a reminder of the unique know-how of the house, which shares with guests the behind-the-scenes work of twisted gold and the setting of diamonds and emeralds shaping a cuff watch to obtain the spectacular golden twists intended for a cuff watch, which alone represents a total of 550 hours of work.

History of the Piaget house

Founded in 1874 by Georges Édouard Piaget, the Maison Piaget began its history in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, in the heart of the Swiss Jura. Originally, Georges Édouard manufactured high-precision movements for other watch brands. His son Timothée took over the company in 1911, marking the beginning of a family tradition of innovation and excellence that continues to this day.

Piaget stands out for its mastery of ultra-thin movements, notably the 9P hand-wound caliber initiated by Valentin Piaget in 1957, which revolutionized watchmaking with its thickness of only 2mm. This expertise is also being honoured in 2020 with the Aiguille d'Or of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève won by the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, the world's thinnest mechanical watch, measuring just 2 mm in total thickness for almost 40 hours of power reserve.

A virtuoso collection of high jewelry: Essence of Extraleganza

To mark its 150th anniversary, Piaget announced at this evening the launch of a brand new virtuoso collection of high jewelry Essence of Extraleganza, bringing together more than 100 colorful pieces. Among them, the spectacular Swinging Necklace adorned with turquoise, malachite and yellow sapphires, offers three different wearing options. A symphony of blue, green and yellow is expressed through a detachable pendant watch, with a trapezoidal dial in turquoise and diamonds, adjustable on the wrist thanks to an ingenious clip system.

Possession 150th Anniversary: a special capsule collection 2024

In addition to the launch of Essence of Extraleganza, Piaget also unveils a new interpretation of its Jewelry Possession, in the form of a capsule collection marking the 150th anniversary of this collection which made the house famous in terms of jewelry, and which is particularly popular.
Using a variety of skills, the jewellers create a highly original capsule collection using captivating goldsmithing techniques, paying homage to the house's mastery of gold and its in-depth vision of movement. The iconic rotating rings of Possession 150th Anniversary jewelry are adorned with iconic chain motifs, curb chain, palm tree, twisted and colored precious stones.

For the Watches and Wonders 2024 show, Maison Piaget is once again establishing a link between past and present by creating the perfect harmony between the solar gadroons of the historic Piaget Polo and the casual chic look of the iconic Piaget Polo Date.

This iconic watch from the house, launched in 1979 by Yves Piaget, a passionate equestrian sports enthusiast, revolutionized watchmaking with its sporty-chic and sophisticated design, in solid gold and its textured dial. Piaget to Homo Faber 2024

At the 2024 edition of Homo Faber, the unmissable jewelry event, this year will be held at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice. Through its own exhibition named The Journey of Life, Piaget highlights its rich heritage and the evolution of its art, from its beginnings as a watchmaker in a small village in the Swiss Jura, to becoming an essential name in the world of fine jewelry.

The house will showcase modern and historical pieces that trace the history of its know-how. Among these treasures are precious watches and highly technical jewelry, including Piaget's specialization in the manufacture of gold chains.

The exhibition will be a highlight of the year for lovers of fine watchmaking and jewelry, and also allows Piaget to reaffirm its role as leader in the luxury sector, after 150 years of existence.
